Hamilton Creek hazardous-fuels reduction program
The Hamilton Creek neighborhood, on a steep hillside at the north end of Silverthorne, has been very active in reducing the risk of wildfires for years. The Hamilton Creek Woodchucks -- a group of residents who have volunteered to lead the charge -- have worked diligently to remove hazardous fuels and inspired the homeowner's association efforts to earn national designation as a Firewise neighborhood. This year, a significant fuels-reduction project that exceeded their capacity prompted them to seek a grant from the Summit County Wildfire Council and the support of Summit Fire & EMS. Check out this video from Jacob Welsh of the SFE Wildland Division of expanding the realm of what is possible.
